Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall.... (an article written by Steph)

Here is an article that Steph wrote for a magazine. :)

Mirror, Mirror on the wall….

I’m sure many of you have heard that saying before, but have you ever stopped to think about what it could mean in our Christian lives? So many times we do or say things in our lives without thinking how it might reflect later on. Sometimes we need to stop and peer into the mirror in our lives to see what it looks like. What would we do without mirrors? I’m sure many of us girls, (and maybe a few guys too!) would never even think of leaving the house without looking in the mirror to see what our hair, face or teeth look like! The Bible is our spiritual “mirror” and it would certainly please God if we looked into it-more than once- every day before going anywhere or doing anything.

A few years ago while attending a seminar; the speaker asked us how we wanted to be remembered by the people around us, or the people we meet. Did we want people to remember us by our selfish, unkind words and deeds? Or did we want to be remembered as having a sweet, Christ-like spirit? I think that question really hit home in the hearts of a lot of the people attending. I know it did for me! At that moment, I sat there and wondered…. How would someone remember me?

Let’s not forget that the word “Christian” means “Christ-like”. Everything we do, every word we say will represent Jesus Christ in our lives.

The question, “What Would Jesus Do?” should be something we ask ourselves in every situation. If we question or doubt something, it’s probably best to stay away from it.

Our testimony is something we should cherish, something to keep clean and pure, not something to throw away and waste on ungodly, selfish things. We as Christians need to set a good example for the lost and also for other Christians. Serving others is a good way to be an example. Whether its housework, baking cookies for a neighbor, or even just helping a sibling… someone is always watching us to see how we act, what kind of attitude we have, and how often we do it. Kind deeds toward others mean nothing if they are being done with the wrong attitude. It’s important to keep in mind too, to be the same at home as you are when you are with others. Being a hypocrite will not improve our testimony, it will only hurt it.

We need to ask Jesus every day to help us become more like Him.

So how do I want someone to remember me? I want to be remembered as someone striving to serve her Saviour, someone who cares about others, someone with a kind, joyful spirit. What do you look like when you closely examine yourself in the mirror? If we look into our spiritual “mirrors” and see an ugly, unkind and selfish heart or life, we need to spend more time in God’s word! Once you figure out how you want to be remembered, work hard to reach that goal every single day. Just keep in mind that we are certainly not perfect, so we will need all the help we can get from God. He is the only one that can change us and make us into a beautiful Christian.

How do you want to be remembered?

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall….. Help me live for God-always-above all!!!!
